Beyond Words

I recently came across an article on interracial relationships, a topic which has facinated me a great deal since I am coined the girl in my family that will most likely step outside of the box and bring someone not indian home. Since then, luckily, it has been done. My two cousins married Italians guys, and their babies are ADORABLE. I almost want to do it for that reason alone…JOKE!

I rarely date Indian guys, although as I’m getting older and I’m watchin my sister join another Indian family I got to say I’m a little more convinced that it would definitely be nice. I say that because our families are already so close, and there are so many things that don’t need explanations, social norms that are already learned, and traditions that will surely live on in their offspring.  I feel as if that sounds like the easy way out, but that’s not what I mean.

At one point I always imagined I’d marry outside my race, I certainly date outside my race–but right now marriage is the furthest thing from my mind. I think that the fusion of two cultures is an amazing gift to give your children, that way they have the best of two, well three, worlds and they can take whatever they want from each. They’d be free-spirits in a sense.

I was fortunate enough to grow up here to Indian parents. I experienced their culture and this culture here and took values from both, I am who I am because of it. As I grew up I began to formulate my own ideas about what I really wanted to take from each culture. I think it’s one of the best things about my perspectives on life and my open mind.

They say by some year very soon…I need to find out the exact date. 70% of all babies born will be interracial. That’s amazing. Now, the world jus needs to catch up with becoming whole-heartedly accepting. Hopefully we’ll get there soon.

As for me, I’m not sure what will happen. Right now I’ll date anyone who captures my interest..as for marriage..well that’s a wayssssss away, so I’ll just see. Like my mom says, “You’ll meet the right person at the most random time and you’ll just know.” I believe her :)
